What Are The Topics?
Student Discipline
When do students cross the line from personal rights to school discipline?
- What factors must schools consider when AI is involved in potential issues of student discipline (e.g., academic integrity, Good Conduct Rule violations, etc.)
- What are the practical and regulatory considerations when considering discipline for a student with a disability?
- What connections to the school are needed when considering discipline of a student for off-campus behavior?
- What rights do students and parents/guardians have to review surveillance video and other school records during a disciplinary proceeding or incident that results in student discipline?
- What are some of the important considerations relating to student possession, use, or display of weapons?
Staff Improvement and Discipline
Statutory, Constitutional, Policy, Contractual, and Regulatory Considerations
- What are important considerations and requirements when utilizing intensive assistance for staff improvement (e.g., awareness periods, timeline, options for use of IA, etc.)
- How to approach allegations of staff misuse or abuse of alcohol and/or controlled substances, whether off or on campus.
- What are considerations regarding staff interaction with students?
- What should or should not be shared when a prospective employer is performing a reference check regarding a current employee?
- How to handle disagreements or complaints involving multiple staff members.
- When does staff member speech cross the line?

Registration fee: $125 for SAI members, $250 for non-members. All participants are required to register.
