K-12 Generative AI Readiness Checklist

Use this tool to evaluate the safety, privacy, security, and ethical implications of using Gen AI.

The tool is organized into five categories of readiness (Executive Leadership Readiness, Operational Readiness, Data Readiness, Technical Readiness, Security Readiness) and one related to legal/risk management. Through a series of questions, it invites schools to consider the following:

• Purpose: How can AI help achieve educational goals?
• Compliance: How does AI fit with existing policies?
• Knowledge: How can schools advance AI Literacy?
• Balance: What are the benefits and risks of AI?
• Integrity: How does AI fit into policies on things like cheating?
• Agency: How can humans stay in the loop on AI?
• Evaluation: How can schools regularly assess the impact of AI?
