Jayme Braida Named 2025 Elementary School Principal of the Year
Jayme Braida, Columbus Elementary principal with Chariton Community School District, has been named the 2024-25 Iowa Elementary School Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa (SAI).
“Jayme Braida is the kind of leader who truly makes a difference. She creates a culture where students, staff, and families feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow. Her commitment to innovation, equity, and constant improvement has made a lasting impact on the Chariton Community School District, and she’s a true champion for education,” said SAI Executive Director Dr. Lisa Remy.
Braida has served as an elementary principal with Chariton Community School District since 2022. Prior to that, she spent a year with Heartland Education Agency. She also served in several leadership positions with Prairie City Community School District from 2018-2021. Braida began her career as a teacher for the Chariton Community School District.
A Central College graduate, Braida received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She then earned a master’s degree in education from Iowa State University.
Cardinal Community Schools Elementary Principal Heather Buckley was part of the selection committee and shared why the committee believed Braida was deserving of this recognition. “Jayme’s dedication to education and her commitment to serving students and the community are undeniable. Her inspiring journey has shaped her ability to make a meaningful impact on students with diverse needs. She balances strong instructional leadership with fostering a supportive and collaborative culture for her team,” she said.
One reference letter described Braida’s focus on relationships. “Jayme is passionate about creating a positive and inclusive school culture where every student feels valued and respected. She works tirelessly to build strong relationships with parents and community members, and she is always willing to go the extra mile to support her staff and students.”
Reflecting on the recognition, Braida said, “Being named SAI Elementary Principal of the Year is truly an honor, but the real privilege lies in the opportunity to serve, lead, and love kids. I’m humbled by this recognition, which is a testament to the incredible mentors and teams I’ve been blessed to work with, whose guidance and collaboration have shaped my leadership and made this achievement possible. I am deeply committed to creating cultures where all students are seen, heard, and valued, knowing that while we may only walk with them for a short time, we can make a lasting impact on their lives.”
Iowa’s Administrator of the Year award recipients will be honored at SAI’s 50th Annual Conference in August 2025.
